Let’s chat about something that happens often: people copying our work. Whether its a reel we made, our signature poses, our editing style 😩 It can be frustrating, right? But here’s a little bit of a hot take 🔥🙈 There’s nothing new under the sun. Seriously! Every great artist pulls inspiration from the world around them, and as photographers, we’re no different!
First off, take a deep breath and remember that imitation is often a form of flattery. It means your work is making waves! 🌊 People admire what you do so much that they want to replicate it. You’re setting the standard, my friend! While it can sting to see someone borrowing your style or ideas (especially when they don’t give credit), try to view it as a compliment.
I know this may all seem way easier said than done. So, HOW can we turn this annoying situation into an opportunity? 🚀 I have written out some of my top tips to help you conquer this scenario if/when it arises:
1. HYPE 👏🏻 YOURSELF 👏🏻 UP: You’re a trailblazer, bestie! 🚀 Remember all the hard work, creativity, and passion that goes into your craft. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small, and remind yourself of your unique contributions to the photography world. You’re leading the way, and that’s something to be proud of! ✨
2. Embrace Your Uniqueness & Focus On What Matters: Remember, your voice and perspective are what truly make your work shine. No one can replicate that. Lean into what makes you you! 🌟 Not only are you pushing boundaries in your craft, but you’re also creating lasting memories for families, capturing the most precious moments they’ll treasure for a lifetime. You’re telling their stories through your lens, and that’s a gift that impacts generations! 📸❤️
3. Keep Evolving: Use this as motivation to push your creative boundaries. Challenge yourself to always try something new. Who knows? You might discover a whole new style, idea, passion, etc.! 💡
4. Connect with Your Community: Share your feelings with fellow photographers (try not to gossip or talk down about anyone else). You’ll find that many have been in your shoes, and it’s comforting to know you’re not alone! We’re all in this together, and lifting each other up is what it’s all about. 🤗
5. Stay the Course, Friend: It’s super easy to let someone else’s actions throw us off course. You might start second-guessing your talent or questioning your ideas. But don’t let it! Remember why you started this journey in the first place. Stay focused on your goals and continue creating the magic that only you can bring to life! 🎨✨
You might be wondering what Ecclesiastes 1:9 has to do with all this. This verse is a reminder that creativity often builds on what’s come before. As photographers, we’re constantly inspired by the world around us, and that inspiration can sometimes overlap with others’ work. Instead of seeing it as a threat, recognize that we’re all part of a larger creative tapestry. Embrace it! Use it to fuel your own innovation and keep pushing the envelope. 🌍✨
Remember, your journey is unique, and every twist and turn adds to your story. So, let’s take a deep breath, flip the script, and keep creating amazing things! 🎉
Can’t wait to see what you will create! Until next time, keep shining and snapping! 📸✨
