Social Media Tips EVERY Photographer Needs

Today we are diving DEEP into a topic that I know its constantly top of mind for any business owner, SOCIAL MEDIA! šŸ“±āœØ Listen, I get it – social media used to be such a hard thing for me too. From feeling like I was in a constant battle with the algorithm to consuming way too much and being in a creative paralysis. šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« Over the last couple of years I feel like I cracked the code on how to use social media as a tool to help my business and get more eyes on my work (don’t worry, I’m not gatekeeping šŸ˜‰). Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your strategy, I’ve got some golden tips to help you shine online and grow your photography business. Let’s dive in!

1. Batch and Repurpose Content Like a Pro šŸŽÆ

Instead of stressing about daily posts, set aside some time each week to PLAN and then create a bunch of content in one go. Think of it as your social media prep party. šŸŽ‰ Not only will this save you time, but it’ll also ensure you have a steady stream of content ready to roll out. Feeling overwhelmed with what to post? Check the section below where I share SIX ideas with you!

And don’t forget about repurposing! That gorgeous newborn session you did? Turn those photos and those BTS videos into multiple pieces of content: a carousel post on Instagram, a story highlight, and an Instagram Reel.

  • Here are THREE reels I made from ONE session with clients:Ā Example 1,Ā Example 2,Ā Example 3

2. Attract with Instagram Reels  āœØ

Reels are your best friends for attracting new people to your page. These short, snappy videos are perfect for showcasing your personality and work. Use trending sounds and hashtags to increase your reach and get those new eyes on your work! Make sure your account is set to a ā€œCreator Accountā€ so that you can see your ā€œProfessional Dashboardā€, when you scroll down – you can see ā€œTrending Audio.ā€ Choose audios you like with ~20,000 videos or less and save them so you can use in Reels later!

3. Show Up with Intention šŸ’Ŗ

Posting with intention means being strategic about what you share. Make sure every post serves a purpose, whether it’s showcasing a recent session, sharing a client testimonial, or providing value through tips and advice and there is a clear call to action or a path to learn more. One of my favorite resources has been The Story Tutorials! BINGE her content!

4. Optimize Your Profile for Maximum Impact šŸš€

Your social media profile is your online storefront, so make it shine! Put yourself in the shoes of a potential client searching for the perfect photographer and they stumble on your page… what do they see?

  • Pin Important Posts: Use pinned posts to highlight key content like a post about you, special offers, popular posts, FAQ, day in your life or recent work that’s generating buzz. This way, new visitors to your profile can see your best stuff right away.
  • Create Highlights: Instagram Stories Highlights are a great way to keep important content visible. Create highlights for client testimonials, portfolio work, tips and tricks, or any other category that showcases your expertise and personality.
  • SEO-Optimized Bio: Craft a bio that’s not only engaging but also optimized for search. Use keywords that potential clients might use to find a family or newborn photographer. Include your location, specialties, and a touch of your personality. And don’t forget to add a call-to-action, like a link to your portfolio or booking page!

5. Use AI Tools to Help You Save Time ā±ļø

AI tools can be a lifesaver for busy photographers! Use ChatGPT to help craft engaging captions and write compelling posts quickly. It’s like having a copywriter on call 24/7. Also, consider using tools like ManyChat to automate responses to people who engage with your content. This can save you tons of time and keep those potential clients engaged without you having to lift a finger every time someone sends a message.

6. Join the Community & Keep Learning šŸ’¬

Finally, remember you’re not alone in this journey. Connect with other photographers and entrepreneurs. Share your experiences, learn from others, and build a support network. It’s amazing how much you can gain from a community that understands your struggles and celebrates your wins and can provide input and advice when you’re feeling stuck!

6 Engaging Content Ideas for Family or Newborn Photographers šŸ“±

1. Behind-the-Scenes Videos šŸŽ¬

  • Share clips of your photoshoot setup, your favorite props, and how you interact with families or newborns. Show the fun and professionalism behind your sessions.Ā Example 1,Ā Example 2,Ā Example 3

2. Client Testimonials & Reviews 🌟

  • Share video or text testimonials from happy clients. Real reviews from other families can build trust and encourage new clients to book with you. You can do this in fun ways:Ā Example 1,Ā Example 2,Ā Example 3

3. Tips for Preparing for a Photoshoot šŸ“

  • Provide helpful tips on what to wear, how to prepare children or newborns, and what to bring to the session. Position yourself as a knowledgeable and caring professional.

4. Share little glimpses of YOU

  • YOU are your secret sauce. There are so many photographers out there, your clients will likely choose you over other photographers because they felt connected with you in one way or another. Whether its your faith, your hobbies or interests, your style – find ways to creatively incorporate this type of content in a way that makes sense. Here are some examples:Ā Example 1,Ā Example 2,Ā Example 3

5. Give your audience a peek into a Photoshoot šŸ“…

  • Create a time-lapse video, voiceover, or a mic’d up video showing the progression of a photoshoot from start to finish. This can be a captivating way to show your audience how you work and make your clients feel comfortable during a session.

6. Interactive Q&A Sessions šŸ—£ļø

  • Host Q&A sessions on live or through stories using question stickers on Instagram to answer common questions about family and newborn photography. Engage with your audience in real time and showcase your knowledge and personality.

So, there you have it! With a little planning, creativity, and community spirit, you can make your social media work wonders for your photography business. Keep shining and capturing those beautiful moments—your dream clients are out there waiting for you!
