Building a Family-First Business

Building a family-first business is a journey that’s close to my heart and central to my life mission. If you want to build a business that lasts, you have to build it on a FIRM FOUNDATION. I firmly believe that revival starts with family 🏠 this belief is actually what inspired the creation of the HOME Workshop, where I aim to spread God’s light and these values so that you can build a wildly successful photography business without compromise or burnout.

Here are some of the things I have implemented that have changed the game for me:

Set Systems in Place for Workflow Automation:

  • Work Smarter, Not Harder: Implement tools that can handle repetitive tasks, so you can focus on what truly matters—your family. Whether it’s using AI tools, a CRM or implementing a project management software, find ways to streamline your workflow.
  • Schedule Your Social Posts: I plan out all of my content for the month in Asana and schedule everything directly in the instagram app. This keeps my workflow simple, making it easy to stay consistent (plus the IG algorithm likes when you are using as many in-app features as possible).
  • Consistency is Key: Establish these automated processes so that when you’re spending time with your kids or taking a much-needed break, your business keeps running for you.

Create a Supportive Team: Recognizing the importance of delegation has been pivotal in scaling my business and saving time. I would rather outsource tasks I don’t love doing instead of spending hours trying to do them myself.

  • Virtual Assistant: They’re not just for big companies! A VA can handle those time-consuming admin tasks (like organizing your CRM and ensuring all your leads have been followed up with) freeing you up to be more present with your family.
  • Marketing Manager: No more posting and praying that the leads will come pouring in. Bringing in someone who understands your vision and can help expand your audience with a strategic marketing plan  & support with content ideation/creation will result in increased sales and time savings!
  • Financial Advisor: A trusted advisor can guide you through financial decisions, ensuring your business supports your family’s goals.

Hiring experts in these spaces not only up levels my business but allows me to focus on what truly matters.

Organize Your Agenda Around Family: Schedule work around family commitments, not the other way around. Protect your family time fiercely!

  • Set aside 2-3 days per week that are your designated “session days.” By keeping your weekends free, you’re giving yourself some much-needed family time while still keeping your calendars busy. Balance, baby! ⚖️👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Additional Tips for a Family-First Business

  • Involve Your Family: Make them part of your business journey. Their insights and support can be invaluable.
  • Celebrate Together: Every business milestone is a family milestone. Acknowledge their role in your success and celebrate together.

Listen, I’m currently writing this email during what should be one of the busiest seasons for my biz 📸 (I have my summer minis on Saturday PLUS, I am in the midst of a massive launch – see below 😉). So… you would think I’m currently slaving away with my blue light blocking glasses on in front of the computer, right? 🤓🖥😵‍💫

Well, what I’m actually doing is floating down a river with my family somewhere in the mountains with no cell service having the time of my life. 🤭💕 and I could only do this because of the things I outlined above.

To be clear: I’m NOT suggesting that building a successful business doesn’t require you to hustle, because it absolutely does. However, it should never require you to compromise on your core values, your home life, or on your health and sanity.

Building a business with family in mind isn’t just possible—it’s the key to creating a life you love. Let’s make our families proud and our dreams a reality!
